Experience and Qualifications
Stephanie graduated from Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City with an MSW in Social Work in 2007 and received her BA in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2000. In graduate school, Stephanie focused on providing social work services to the most vulnerable populations. She specialized in the Popular Education method Theater of the Oppressed to help communities increase self-awareness, gain an analysis of power and create here-and-now changes in their lives using collaborative techniques. Stephanie’s interest in community work began in 2001 when she worked as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in a remote Andean region in Peru. Stephanie’s experience as a Peace Corps volunteer gave her insight into the value and benefit of a personal connection to nature and spirituality, coupled with a deep sense of belonging and community.
Stephanie has spent almost two decades exploring and studying movement, meditation and breath-work as modalities for gaining insight, training the mind and finding joy through embodiment. She has been a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance since 2008 with over 500 hours of instruction under world-renowned teachers in yoga and meditation. Stephanie has experience in spiritual mentoring and initiating clients into the powerful ways of dealing with life’s most perplexing problems. Stephanie has found this helpful with her individual clients, with couples, in group, and throughout integrative mental health services. Stephanie has been guiding yoga students in a regular weekly open yoga class in the Hudson Valley for the last 7 years.
Stephanie has extensive training and experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder and other high-risk behavioral issues. In addition, she has training and experience with Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for treating addictive behaviors, depression, and anxiety.
